IndyCar Milwaukee Doubleheader: Palou Nears Fifth Title

The IndyCar Milwaukee doubleheader gives Alex Palou two chances this weekend to put a fifth series title almost beyond reach, with rounds 16 and 17 of the 2026 season staged as a pair of 250-lap races at the Milwaukee Mile.

Palou arrives in Wisconsin 91 points clear of Kyle Kirkwood, a margin he protected even after a difficult afternoon in Washington D.C., where the Andretti Global driver won the Freedom 250 Grand Prix. Motorsport.com describes the reigning and four-time champion as “on the cusp of clinching his fifth IndyCar title” with three rounds left to run. It is the same pattern we saw when Palou stretched his advantage at Nashville in July.

The IndyCar Milwaukee doubleheader schedule

Practice opens on Friday at 6:00pm ET (11:00pm BST), followed by qualifying at 11:05am ET (4:05pm BST) on Saturday. The Snap-on Makers and Fixers 250 goes green at 2:50pm ET (7:50pm BST) on Saturday, with the Snap-on Milwaukee Mile 250 at 1:20pm ET (6:20pm BST) on Sunday. Both races are shown on FOX in the United States.

Christian Rasmussen is the defending winner at the oval, where he took his maiden IndyCar victory a year ago. Snap-on has also signed a multiyear extension as title sponsor of the meeting, renewing a partnership rooted in the tool manufacturer’s Milwaukee origins.

Honda momentum behind the leader

Palou heads the standings with six wins, and his engine supplier goes to Milwaukee having swept every street race of 2026, taking 15 of 18 available podium places and leading 543 of 597 laps on temporary circuits.

Whatever Milwaukee settles, the season closes at Laguna Seca on 4-6 September, where Palou’s #10 Chip Ganassi Racing Honda will carry a throwback DHL lightning bolt livery marking 30 years since Alex Zanardi’s celebrated Corkscrew pass.
