Sergio Perez to stay with Force India for 2016

Sergio Perez has no doubts that he’ll be with Force India next season, saying he has a contract and expects a deal to be announced before the Singapore Grand Prix in over two weeks time.

Force India announced earlier this week that Nico Hulkenberg would be retained for two more seasons, but there was no news on a deal for Perez.

The Mexican joined Force India in 2014 after racing for McLaren the previous year, and he has a contract with his current outfit for another season.

Perez believes an announcement should be made shortly as he told Motorsport.com

“It is great news for the team,” Perez said of Hulkenberg’s announcement. “I think he is a great driver and for me I think the news is coming quite soon.

“I have a contract with the team, so as you know I have a group of sponsors and we are trying to make the announcement altogether so in that respect it is all clear.

“We are getting to the point where very soon things should be announced, so I expect to announce my plans hopefully before the next race.”

When asked if he was looking for a contract with another outfit, he replied: “No, I have a contract here. My priority is to stay here.”

Perez says he is hoping to sign a long-term deal with the team.

“It is things that we are definitely discussing as well, so obviously the team is going upwards and is really pushing and I know the plans for the team, so I am really happy to stay here,” he added.
