A Ferrari reserve driver will be racing for incoming Formula team Haas for next season, Gene Haas confirmed.
The team is to make its debut in F1 in 2016 and has a technical partnership, which includes having Ferrari engines, with the Scuderia rolling forward from next year.
The recent news emerging implies that current Ferrari driver standbys Esteban Gutierrez and Jean-Eric Vergne are one of the drivers confirmed for a race seat and when announcing the news to AUTOSPORT, Haas said he wanted to complete the driver lineup with another seasoned driver and ruled out rookie drivers.
“Hopefully in the next couple of weeks, we’ll have something to say,” he told AUTOSPORT.
“One of the drivers will be a Ferrari reserve driver and we’re still looking for an experienced Formula 1 driver, a current driver. No rookies.”
Team boss Gunther Steiner reiterated Haas’ comments in that he too had a preference for drivers with experience in F1 machinery.
“We’re just trying to find the driver who best suits what we are looking for.” added Steiner.
“We would like that both have driven an F1 car before. One we want with real experience, one who has been through a few years in F1.”
