‘I’m satisfied with my performance’ – Ericsson

After an atrocious season in 2014, Sauber have definitely made a strong comeback this year.

The team failed to score any points last season but have performed well against teams like Toro Rosso and Lotus.

Sauber driver Marcus Ericsson had to start towards the back of the 20 car grid at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, but his drive was far better than his grid position.

Ericsson beat team-mate Felipe Nasr by half a second in qualifying and followed up in the race.

The Swede just missed out on a points finish, but his drive was not one to ignore. He battled out with his team-mate for a lot of the race before Nasr retired at the Peraltada.

Ericsson’s brakes were heavily overheating towards the end of the race, the same feat which retired his team-mate, but the former Caterham driver nursed the car home.

Despite him finishing twelfth, his performance was strong and by itself deserved a points finish.

The Swedish driver had this to say: ‘Overall it was a decent race after a rather difficult weekend. We were aiming for points, which did not work out with P12.’

‘However, I am satisfied with my performance and also with the strategy we chose. Throughout the whole race stint, I had issues with the brakes, as they were overheating.’

‘It was a challenge to manage them, which compromised our performance. We will learn from that and focus on the next race weekend in Brazil.’
