Star Driver: Mexican Grand Prix

After 23 years absence from the Formula One race calendar, the Mexican Grand Prix returned this weekend. It was obvious that the track was brand new to the drivers as errors were made throughout the race, despite a clean first corner.

It’s been especially hard to decide on a star driver of the Mexican Grand Prix but due to his outstanding performance across the entire race weekend, Mercedes’ Nico Rosberg is my star driver.

After qualifying on pole position, it was clear the German had gained some confidence on this new track. Nico Rosberg drove the remodelled Mexican course with incredible technique, making only a few errors throughout the entire race. The skill he used to conduct his car around the track was admirable as he held off his teammate, and current World Champion, Lewis Hamilton, who seemed to be constantly just behind him.

As the safety car was taken off the track and returned to the pit lane, Rosberg did not get away as smoothly as he’d hoped. Despite this, the driver remained calm and eventually pulled his car past the chequered flag. Lewis Hamilton was just 1.954 seconds behind.

Rosberg’s podium celebrations were only made sweeter by the fact that this was only his fourth victory of the 2015 season. After breaking the chain of getting pole and coming second Rosberg seems to be in a positive mindset and ready to take on the final two races of the season.
