GP2 race cancelled after crash on opening lap

The final race of the 2015 season at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi was cancelled after a heavy crash during the opening lap. Pierre Gasly spun in the middle of the bunched-up field, and Norman Nato was not able to avoid the stranded car. Sean Gelael and Nicholas Latifi were unable to take evasive action, tapping Artem Markelov into a spin and collecting Rene Binder and Nigel De Jong before ending in the barriers. Sergey Sirotkin retired as well after being hit from behind. The race was red-flagged immediately and had to be cancelled eventually as the damage to the barriers was too heavy to be repaired in time before the F1 race later this afternoon.

No points are awarded for this race as the completed distance was too short: This means that Stoffel Vandoorne remains in first place with 341.5 points after his Feature race win and an advantage of 160 points over second-placed Alexander Rossi, while Sergey Sirotkin claims third place in the championship standings with 139 points despite having to abandon the race. Rio Haryanto has to settle for fourth place in the standings only one point behind Sirotkin, and Mitch Evans finishes the season in fifth place with 135 points. With 110 points each, Alex Lynn, Raffaele Marciello, and Pierre Gasly finish the season on sixth, seventh, and eighth place respectively. Nobuharu Matsushita (68.5 points) and Richie Stanaway (60 points) complete the top then of the 2015 GP2 championship.
