It was the maximum we could do today – Sainz

Carlos Sainz Jr. finished the race in Abu Dhabi outside the points in 11th but says that this was the best the team could’ve expected.

It has been Verstappen who’s been getting the better of the Spaniard on the race day on the most occasions this season, last losing out to Sainz back in Italy.

However, after Max was forced to pit for another set of new tyres because of a flat spot, Carlos finished the higher Toro Rosso driver for only the seventh time this year.

“I’m pleased [with the race] because we managed to overcome all the problem we had on Friday and we put a very good race together to finish P11, I think it was the maximum we could do today.” The 21-year-old said after the race.

“My rookie season ends with a positive feeling because I think we’ve had a good year and overall I’ve definitely learned a lot every race, become a better driver and this will make me stronger.”

Yesterday, Sainz out-qualified his highly rated teammate for the tenth time this season, meaning he won the intra-team qualifying battle for 2015 and although he was beaten on points by his teammate he has had a fairly successful first year.

Carlos has already been confirmed for next year, and will once again race alongside Verstappen in one of the most promising young driver line-ups on the grid.
