Doubts over Mexican ePrix live race coverage in the UK

ITV look set to not have live coverage of the Mexican ePrix next month, as it clashes with the Snooker Grand Prix final.

The first Mexican ePrix is due to take place on Saturday 12th March on a revised version of the Formula One track in Mexico City and will clash with Snooker’s World Grand Prix also being aired live on ITV4. From the first indications, the Formula E race will be shown delayed later in the evening at 10om, despite the race being held earlier.

According to F1 Broadcasting it is unsurprising given the decline in viewers for Formula E, which has been consistently lower in the second season compared to the first.

It leaves the question which is so far unanswered, will fans be able to watch the Mexico race live?

There are options, although limited. ITV would unlikely put the coverage on a sister channel (ITV 2 or 3), and definitely not on the main channel given it will be mid series on Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway, one of the highest rated shows for ITV.

Another idea is to geo-unblock the live feed on YouTube. Currently, you are able to watch practice and qualifying live on the channel, but is blocked for the race in the UK, handing over to the coverage provided by ITV.

Either way it is a setback for the series in the UK, despite enthusiasm for the series.
