Vergne to swap DS Virgin for Techeetah

Motorsport have said that Jean-Eric Vergne will be making the move to Techeetah for season three of the FIA Formula E Championship.

The Frenchman confirmed during the season finale at Battersea Park last weekend that he would be leaving the DS Virgin team. He made his debut for the team at the Punta del Este ePrix on Dec. 13, 2014.

The report states that there is a deal in place for him to join Techeetah next season. Techeetah was formed after a group of Chinese investors bought the license of Team Aguri, who have decided to leave Formula E after two seasons.

He is likely to be driving alongside Ma Qing Hua, who joined Team Aguri before the Paris ePrix this year. In four races Ma hasn’t been able to finish inside the top ten, with 11th place in the Saturday London ePrix being his best finish so far.

DS Virgin Racing was able to secure third place in the Teams’ Championship after the final ePrix of the season, thanks to a podium finish from Vergne on the Saturday.

He has been beaten across the full season by his teammate Sam Bird however. The Brit picked up three pole positions, a victory at the Mexico City ePrix, and 88 points overall. Vergne however only took home 56 points, with seventh at the Punta del Este ePrix being his only points finish before Paris ePrix in April.
