Honda upgrades engine ahead of British Grand Prix

Honda are hoping to continue their steady rate of progression by equipping both of the team’s drivers with an upgraded ICE intake system at this weekend’s British Grand Prix.

The upgraded ICE intake system is only expected to provide a slight increase in power output, instead, the upgrade will focus on improving the efficiency of the engine’s combustion.

Fernando Alonso will be given a fresh ICE unit to accompany the new intake system, with Jenson Button not requiring a change of ICE unit.

McLaren enjoyed a season-best finish at last week’s Austrian Grand Prix courtesy of Button’s mastery in difficult weather conditions during qualifying. The Brit managed to hold off the faster cars behind him throughout the race to earn sixth.

So far this season Honda have used 22 upgrade tokens, the second most out of any team after Ferrari who have used 29. The new ICE intake system upgrade leaves Honda with 10 remaining tokens that they plan to use during the rest of the season.
