Ricciardo grabs third consecutive Hungary podium

Daniel Ricciardo returned to the podium for the first time since the Monaco Grand Prix with third place at Hungary.

The result sees the Australian also move up to third in the Drivers’ Championship just one point ahead of Kimi Raikkonen. It is also Ricciardo’s third podium in as many years at the Hungaroring circuit following his win in 2014 and third last year.

The Red Bull driver made a good start and attacked the two Mercedes drivers around the outside into the first corner. Ricciardo managed to take second from Rosberg until turn two where the latter superbly overtook around the outside to regain second place. Ricciardo maintained third throughout the race and held on despite a late push from Sebastian Vettel.

On the podium after the race, the Australian was in an upbeat mood: “It’s great to have another podium this year, obviously the first one was a bit bittersweet. This one I can definitely enjoy and for sure the smile is back. I’m super happy to be here today, it’s three years in a row on the podium at this circuit, it’s been good to me.”

The paddock now head to Hockenheim for round 12 of the season next weekend before the Summer break, with Ricciardo looking to maintain his points advantage over his talented team-mate Max Verstappen who is just 15 points behind.
