Buemi leads second practice in Marrakesh

Reigning world champion Sebastien Buemi returned to the summit of the timesheets with a strong lap at the end of second practice in Marrakesh to end the session two-tenths clear of Mahindra’s Felix Rosenqvist.

Rosenqvist’s impressive time of a 1m20.834 stood at the top of the timesheets for the majority of the session before Buemi put a strong lap together to take top spot.

A substantial gap separated the top two and the rest of the field with Jean-Eric Vergne ending FP2 in third place. The Frenchman was 0.610s off the pace in the Techeetah.

NEXTEV’s Oliver Turvey, Dragon’s Loic Duval and ABT’s Daniel Abt were within a second of Buemi’s benchmark as they completed the top six.

Season one champion Nelson Piquet Jr. was seventh fastest ahead of Antonio Felix da Costa in the Andretti. Lucas di Grassi and Nick Heidfeld were unable to match their teammate’s efforts but were just inside the top 10.

Sam Bird was just outside the top 10 in 11th place. The Englishman crashed his DS Virgin at the end of the session which resulted in heavy damage to the rear of his car. The crash resulted in a red flag and the session did not restart – leaving some drivers without an opportunity to complete a 200 kW lap.
