Mir ends Friday on top as Martin ruled out of weekend

Joan Mir ended Friday’s free practice session in first place, as championship rival Jorge Martin suffered a horror crash.

Martin suffered a crash at turn one that saw the session red flagged. The Spaniard was taken to hospital, where it was discovered he had suffered a fractured ankle. This ruled the Gresini rider out of this weekend’s action.

Mir ended the session first, with Romano Fenati ending up in second. German Phillip Oettl was third, as the German looks to impress his home crowd.

Livio Loi impressed, taking fourth, with Nicolo Bulega and Marcos Ramirez finishing fifth and sixth. Enea Bastianini was seventh, with Aron Canet eighth.

Bo Bendsneyder ended Friday in ninth place, with Jakub Kornfeil ending the day in tenth. Ayumu Sasaki was eleventh, the SIC rider impressing as the conditions worsened in Germany.

The Moto3 riders will return tomorrow for the qualifying session for Sunday’s race. They will begin at 11:35 BST.
