Marquez edges out Folger to win again in Germany

Marc Marquez took his eighth win in a row at the Sachsenring this afternoon, just edging out home favourite Jonas Folger.

Folger and Marquez were engulfed in a tight battle throughout the entire race. The Spaniard was unable to gap the German, who was able to stay with Marquez until his tyres finally wore out.

Starting from fifth, the Tech 3 rider was able to quickly dispatch of the riders in front of him. He was able to pass Dani Pedrosa and then Marquez, but fell back down to second place very quickly. Folger would be forced to settle for second place, the first GP podium for the German and in front of his home fans.

Dani Pedrosa would finish a lonely third place, whilst the real action took place behind him. After a poor qualifying, Maverick Vinales started down in eleventh. The Spaniard rectified this in the race, coming through the field to take fourth. Teammate Valentino Rossi would finish behind him in fifth, the pair battling it out throughout the race.

Alvaro Bautista finished an impressive sixth, with Aleix Espargaro also doing well in seventh. Andrea Dovizioso was unable to add to his wins at Mugello and Assen, the Ducati rider finishing eighth and losing his championship lead.

Johann Zarco would cross the line ninth, with Cal Crutchlow finishing tenth. Jorge Lorenzo and Danilo Petrucci, who both spent the beginning of the race at the front, were unable to keep up the pace. The pair finished Eleventh and Twelfth respectively.

The result moves Marquez up to the top of the World Championship, overtaking Dovizioso. However, only ten points separate the top four going into the Summer break.

MotoGP action will return in one month’s time, as the riders head out to the Brno Circuit for the Czech GP.
