Marc Marquez tops tight third free practice

Marc Marquez returned to the top of the timesheets this morning, The Spaniard putting in good times before qualifying.

After Danilo Petrucci dominated Friday, Marquez began Saturday on top. He was the only rider to dip under the 1 minute 33-second mark, putting in a 1’32.958 to put himself in a great position ahead of qualifying. Maverick Vinales was second, only 0.154 seconds behind Marquez.

Danilo Petrucci’s Friday time was enough to put the Italian in third, safely making it through to Q2. Cal Crutchlow finished fourth, with championship leader Andrea Dovizioso finishing fifth.

Dani Pedrosa would finish the day in sixth, with Jorge Lorenzo seventh. Johann Zarco was eighth, with Michele Pirro finishing in ninth place. The final rider to make it through automatically to Q2 was Aleix Espargaro, the Spaniard finishing tenth.

Andrea Iannone and Tito Rabat finished in eleventh and twelfth, meaning the pair now having to fight through Q1 for a chance to start in the top twelve tomorrow.

Q1 begins later today at 13:10 BST.
