Driver Ratings: 2018 Brazilian Grand Prix

Opportunism is a key attribute for any successful driver and not for the first time in the 2018 Formula 1 season, Lewis Hamilton was opportunistic in seizing a race victory.

Max Verstappen seemed on course to claim a shock win at the Brazilian Grand Prix after tearing through the field from fifth on the grid to challenge race-leader Hamilton prior to the pitstop phase.

Eventually grabbing the lead, Verstappen pulled away from Hamilton on newer tyres until a bizarre tangle with a lapped Esteban Ocon sent the Red Bull driver spinning out of the lead.

Unable to reel in Hamilton, the 2018 world champion notched a 10th win of the season. With team-mate Valtteri Bottas in fifth, the pair also sealed a fifth consecutive constructors’ title for Mercedes.

The win also guarantees Hamilton the statistic of having won half of all the races held in the V6 hybrid era so far – Brazil being his 50th top step appearance since the start of 2014.
