Welcome to today’s round-up of the latest headlines from across the racing world, keeping you up to speed with the fast-moving developments in global motorsport.
This daily briefing from Read Motorsport looks at the fallout from last weekend’s races, some strategic shifts, and various rumours shaping the current championships.
Formula 1
The F1 roadshow has landed in Montreal ahead of this weekend’s Canadian Grand Prix. Championship leaders Mercedes, via Team Principal Toto Wolff, have noted that their current competitive advantage remains precarious.
Despite Kimi Antonelli securing three recent victories to head teammate George Russell in the standings, Wolff acknowledged that recent upgrades from McLaren, Ferrari, and Red Bull closed the performance deficit during the Miami Grand Prix.
Consequently, Mercedes have confirmed plans to introduce its first major aerodynamic upgrade package of the season at the Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve.
Alongside all of the above, speculation regarding Lewis Hamilton’s eventual retirement continues to circulate, even though the seven-time World Champion maintains that his motivation remains undiminished.
Reports suggest that Ferrari have already shortlisted three potential long-term successors for his seat: Williams’ Carlos Sainz, Haas rookie Oliver Bearman, and Red Bull’s Max Verstappen.
Meanwhile, Verstappen has continued to diversify his racing commitments outside of Grand Prix weekends, notably addressing what he termed “unfinished business” at the Nurburgring 24 Hours endurance event.
Formula E
In the Formula E World Championship, this week’s coverage has been dominated by the tactical fallout from the Monaco e-Prix, where a late-race Attack Mode strategy by Oliver Rowland altered the trajectory of the drivers’ championship.
Furthermore, regulatory bodies are reportedly preparing new framework guidelines ahead of the upcoming Gen4 era. The proposed regulations aim to prohibit team orders between manufacturers and customer teams to preserve sporting integrity.
NASCAR
Last weekend, the NASCAR Cup Series turned its attention to the “Monster Mile” at Dover Motor Speedway for the annual All-Star event.
Rebounding from a qualifying spin to start from pole position, Denny Hamlin steered through the carnage to secure his second career All-Star victory and the $1 million grand prize. Hamlin’s No. 11 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota dominated the 200-lap final segment, leading a race-high 103 laps and surviving eight caution periods that collected more than half of the 36-car field.
Hamlin ultimately outmanoeuvred teammate Chase Briscoe in the final 30 laps to spearhead a dominant top-three sweep for Toyota alongside Erik Jones.
In the pit lane, Front Row Motorsports demonstrated elite execution, with Zane Smith’s crew claiming the $100,000 Pit Crew Challenge to earn the premier pit stall selection.
Endurance Racing (WEC)
Looking toward long-term manufacturer strategies, McLaren’s sports car division has generated considerable interest following the announcement of a planned 2027 entry into the FIA World Endurance Championship Hypercar class with the MCL-HY.
Following the confirmation of the project, Lando Norris publicly expressed his ambition to race in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in a McLaren, signalling their desire to eventually pursue motorsport’s historic Triple Crown.
