- Keselowski vouches for Kyle Busch to be inducted into the HOF as soon as possible.
- Busch is the driver with the highest number of wins across NASCAR’s national divisions.
- NASCAR might consider inducting Busch into the Hall of Fame in the Class of 2027.
In the days following Kyle Busch’s passing on May 21, a cloud has continued to hang over both the garage and the racetrack.
Across the weekend, all three race winners, Ross Chastain, Layne Riggs, and Daniel Suarez, paid tribute to Busch by recreating the celebration that became tied to his name for years, bowing toward the crowd in victory lane. Yet for former rival Brad Keselowski, gestures alone do not go far enough.
The RFK Racing co-owner recently stated that he wants NASCAR to move Kyle Busch straight into the NASCAR Hall of Fame without delay.
Brad Keselowski questions why Busch’s induction should remain on hold for another year
Only days ago, NASCAR unveiled its Hall of Fame Class of 2027. Kevin Harvick, who stepped away from full-time competition in 2023, was voted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame alongside Jeff Burton and Larry Phillips. Lesa France Kennedy also received the Landmark Award, while the induction ceremony remains scheduled for January 22, 2027.
Speaking during a media session ahead of the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway, Brad Keselowski made it clear that he believes Busch should not have to wait through the standard process.
“That’s the one that I know right now that I would like to see is something with effect to the Hall of Fame and so forth. But I understand there’s a lot of things to work through on that. But it’s very clear Kyle’s the first ballot Hall of Famer, and I don’t know why that needs to wait another year,” he said.
Busch won NASCAR Cup Series championships in 2015 and 2019 and amassed 234 combined wins across NASCAR’s national divisions, the highest total in the sport’s history.
He also owns the Truck Series wins record with 69 victories, adding another to that total only last weekend at Dover Motor Speedway. In the Cup Series, Busch recorded 63 wins, placing him among the top-10 winners in series history. In the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series, he collected 102 victories.
Because of that résumé, Busch had long been viewed as a future Hall of Fame inductee the moment his career came to a close. Now, even drivers who spent years trading paint and punches with him on the racetrack believe his place among NASCAR’s inner circle should come sooner rather than later.
NASCAR weighing Hall of Fame inclusion for Kyle Busch in 2027
During a press conference on Friday, NASCAR CEO Steve O’Donnell revealed that the sanctioning body is open to placing Busch into the Hall of Fame Class of 2027 alongside Jeff Burton, Kevin Harvick, and Larry Phillips. However, no ruling has yet been made regarding whether Busch’s mandatory three-year waiting period would be waived.
However, there remains little debate among the fans regarding Busch’s credentials. He owns the record for combined victories across NASCAR’s three national touring divisions and sits among the leaders on the Cup Series wins list. Busch’s standing within the sport places him among names that shaped NASCAR through generations, and his Hall of Fame induction has never appeared to be a matter of “if,” but “when.”
But at the same time, another discussion has surfaced regarding timing. Some within the NASCAR world believe adding Busch to the 2027 class could overshadow the names already selected for induction. While the idea of Busch and Harvick entering together carries symbolic weight given their era and rivalry, others believe each driver deserves a moment in the spotlight.
Another route remains available for NASCAR if it chooses not to include Busch in the 2027 class. The Hall of Fame could waive the waiting period and place Busch on the ballot for 2028 instead. Such a move would allow voters the opportunity to make Busch the first unanimous inductee in NASCAR Hall of Fame history.
For now, however, NASCAR has not reached any final decision on the matter.
