Marcus Armstrong led a Meyer Shank Racing 1-2 in opening practice for the XPEL Grand Prix at Road America, putting the No. 66 Honda on top despite battling flu symptoms.
The New Zealander set a best lap of 1m44.2714s around the 4.014-mile Wisconsin road course, with team-mate Felix Rosenqvist second on 1m44.3501 in the No. 60 Honda, according to INDYCAR’s official Road America practice report.
Series leader and reigning Road America winner Alex Palou was third for Chip Ganassi Racing on 1m44.3659, while Arrow McLaren pair Pato O’Ward and Nolan Siegel completed the top five.
Meyer Shank Lands Early Road America Marker
The session matters because Road America is one of the calendar’s most complete tests: long straights, heavy braking zones and high-commitment corners all punish cars that are even slightly out of balance.
Armstrong’s pace was therefore more than a Friday footnote. He reported that the car was quick on both Firestone primary and alternate tyres, while Rosenqvist’s second place underlined that Meyer Shank had found a strong baseline across both entries.
There was one red flag when Sting Ray Robb spun at Turn 14 and hit the outside wall, damaging his Juncos Hollinger Chevrolet. The weekend continues with Saturday practice and qualifying before Sunday’s 55-lap race.
